What is in this mysterious black box from outer space?

The game box bottom explains all: It’s filled with everything you need for an Amazing Space Venture!

A four-player game of ASV in progress.

An Earthling (you can tell by his hand!) gets ready to discover the Planet Ibn Sinae.

The red player begins Phase 3 of his turn, "Movement and Discovery."

Like space itself, this game board is HUGE! A 25" x 33", durable, heavy-duty, six-fold "universe" contains a playing area with 169 squares (including worm holes and locations of nine starting planet tiles), and an attractive 50-point scoring track with an inside area to place all decks of cards and stacks of tiles.

Each player gets die-cut playing pieces in either yellow, red, green, or blue. Included are 11 Space Ships, two Space Pirates, two Space Probes, two Space Stations, 10 large (7/8") Home Planets, 10 small (5/8") Planets, and six black Destroyed Planet disks.

Each turn, as you draw and place Space tiles onto the game board, you create an ever-changing, new, and challenging universe. Move your Space Ship to discover Planets such as this valuable undiscovered 5-point Planet. Place Space Probes, Space Stations, or Space Pirates to score even more points.

There are 88 large (1-3/4" x 1-3/4") Space tiles in the game. They include tiles with undiscovered Planets, starry Galaxies, red Space Paths, empty Deep Space areas, Worm Holes, Black Holes, Special Quests, and/or a Sun.

This tile has parts of a starry Galaxy on three of its four sides; the other side is Deep Space. To correctly place this tile next to one (or more) already on the game board, all connected sides of the tiles have to match.

This is one of four Sun tiles that can score additional points and, when placed strategically, can end a Space Path or interfere with the completion of a Galaxy.

Geo-Gaia, worth 4 points, is the most valuable of 30 different Planet cards.

Because Eridani is a Home Planet, you can build and place new Space Ships on it. Also, all Home Planets are worth more points in end-of-game scoring.

This mystic leader of the new frontier is one of six Space Explorers that score you extra points when discovering a Planet. In the Role-Play variant, she can look at the top two cards in both the Space Port and Refuel decks and choose whichever one card she wants.

After "discovering" a Planet, you can play an Environment card. If you cannot or choose not to play a card, one of your opponents may do so beginning with the player to your left.

Environments are either good, neutral, or negative. Can you guess which category this card is?

Each Environment card value is either added to (or, in this case, subtracted from) the value of the Planet card you just played. It's possible for a planet to have no environment.

Domed Cities are just one of 30 different Life Forms you may encounter when you discover a planet during your Amazing Space Venture.

Some Life Forms, like the Space Monster, are totally alien and can cause you to lose points from your score.

Other Life Forms, like Plasma Spores, are abundant and can be found often throughout space.

During your turn, you have the option of playing a red card as a Special Action. Some cards, like this one, help you in your efforts to win.

After drawing and placing tiles, you can play an Only Action card if you have one in your hand. These cards are very powerful and can hinder an opponent's strategy.

Play a Special Response card (notice the "R" in the upper left corner) when another player plays a Special Action on you, even if it is not your turn.

The Colony Space Ship is the most powerful of seven different types of space ships, shuttles, and flying saucers. It can move (M) +4 spaces in any direction on the game board.

Each player begins Amazing Space Venture with a Star-T Space Ship positioned on top of their starting Home Planet.

The Laser Beam is one of many Space Ship Extras with a "continuing effect" for the entire game. Others include Flash-jets, a Fleet Admiral, a Nano-computer, a Photon Torpedo, Pirate Crew, and the blundering space explorer wannabe, Captain Rookie.
